Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actress since the end of the 1980s. Known for her work in television and in film in the 1980s, she's been awarded numerous awards such as two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was born to her aunt in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Her birthplace was and grew up at home in New York New York. Bassett relocated with her twin sister in St. Petersburg Florida at five years old to be near their mother, who was separated from her father. Bassett watched the James Earl Jones in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men play while she was still at high school and decided that it was acting she would like to be doing. In 1980, Bassett graduated from Yale University New Haven Connecticut with the degree of African American studies. She earned a diploma from The Yale School of Drama. She dated Courtney B. Vance, an actress who was also at Yale and they got married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Graduated from Yale School of Drama School with a master's in African American studies, in the year 1980.
